At the heart of the 2026 Subaru Outback's impressive capability is the legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. The 2026 Outback offers two powertrain options to suit different driving preferences. The standard 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine produces 180 horsepower and delivers an efficient 27 miles per gallon combined fuel economy. For those seeking enhanced performance, turbocharged trims feature a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates an impressive 260 horsepower while still maintaining respectable efficiency. Both engines are paired with a lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) that includes an eight-speed manual shift mode and Hill Descent Control for added versatility on varied terrain.
